What Orwell brought up was true when communication was limited as it was in the 20th century. Now with communication evolving faster than government controls on it (not even China can block things - there are multiple ways to get around the nation's firewall) peaceful protest is possible. It won't always work like Gandhi's did, but with more and more of them eventually one will succeed.
