Bolivian Lithium

Foreign Policy magazine has a pretty good article about Lithium in Bolivia here.

You all, by the way, should go to Uyuni (the Bolivian salt flat, and the biggest salt flat in the world) before it gets developed. It is simply the most amazing place I have ever been.

The development of their Lithium resources may provide an interesting case study into the "resource curse".

It may be interesting also to see how Bolivia balances development with preservation; ultimately how will they mine lithium while also maintaining the existence of such a unique natural phenomenon.

To paraphrase: despite have a ton-o-silver... the people are dirt poor. They definitely need to be wary of foreign investment, as such investment in the past has resulted in the great mineral wealth (silver in the past) of Bolivia being removed without much benefit to the people of Bolivia.

AND, that looks like an incredible spot. I'd hate to see it ruined by extractive industry.
